Abstract

Film bags with different permeabilities with/without LCA conditioner (capable of maintaining low ethylene controlled atmosphere) were treated in ¢¥Fuji¢¥ apple (Malus domestica Borkh.) fruits 8¡9 months after harvesting. Postharvest quality of fruits and change of gas compositions in film bags were investigated during storage at 5¡É. It was found that all film bag treatments regardless of addition of LCA conditioner were effective in maintenance of flesh firmness and fresh weight, but not in soluble solids as compared to control. Specially, treatment of anti-fog film (25 m thiclrness) and LCA conditioner resulted in the best visual appearance and gas composition of 15¡17% CO©ü and 5¡7% O©ü, and very low level of ethylene during storage. In another experiment, it was shown that the rottening rate of fruits was much less in the bag with LCA conditioner than without LCA conditioner. Moreover, treatment of film bag (PVDC coating film, 20 m thickness) and LCA condtioner in conventional transportation box was profoundly effective in maintenance of flesh firmness and visual appearance, and inhibition of rottening by microorganism infection as compared to the treatment of transportation box only after 49 days storage.
